Jonathan Li of Plano and Marshall Honaker of Dallas turned 13 on the same day.

Jonathan is 4 feet 7 inches tall; Marshall is 6 feet 2 inches. And it doesn’t make a bit of difference in fencing, these good friends agree. After all, the foil is the same length no matter the height of the person wielding it

Courtney Hurley won the junior women’s epee North American Cup event Jan. 16-19 at Louisville, Ky. She is ranked No. 1 in the country in junior women’s epee and No. 2 in the seniors. She is No. 2 in the world in the junior division.

GALVESTON — Tired of being attacked by swashbuckling pirates on the way home from work or school?

OK, maybe not.

But just because swords aren’t needed in modern times to defend oneself, doesn’t mean there still isn’t fun that can be had wielding medieval weapons. Sixty-one-year-old Kenneth Shelton encourages people to come try the sport he’s been participating in since high school — fencing.
