When one hears the word “fencing,” duels and movies about the Medieval and Renaissance periods comes to mind. But for UCLA sophomore Deena Dulgerian, fencing is not just a historical pastime; it is her favorite hobby, which she has been actively involved in for over six years. A Maryland native, Dulgerian started fencing in the 6th grade, but took a minor break in the year 2006 when she moved to the state of California

There is a venue here in Southwest Bakersfield where those with ideas of swashbuckling and sword-play can make them a reality.  Interested sportsman acquire swordsmanship skills that allow them to compeat in the high-tech  Olympic sport of fencing competition

Illingworth, a sophomore at Riverside Christian High School, first saw fencing on television and thought it looked “interesting.”

Head of PE department introduces atypical sport, continues after 7 years

While the French may have perfected the art of dueling, Scott Callisch, head of the PE department, has given new meaning to the formal attack. Since it’s appearance seven years ago to the guys’ PE units, fencing has seemed to become a hit.

Marisa Berger, a 15-year-old sophomore at North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake, would have no problem toting a .44 Magnum while spouting, “Go ahead, make my day.”

She practices shooting inside her family’s house and garage, using an air pistol to fire lead pellets into a steel box. She can hit a target smaller than a dime from 10 meters away.
