I think this class ran the smoothest of any large class I’ve seen from Colin so far, this is after taking fencing from him for about 7 months. Its a testament to his organization and planning which meshed well with the regular students knowledge and kills. Nobody seemed bored, stressed or uncomfortable be it the students or the teachers. Everyone seemed to have a good time.

Something I wrote on another blog about Salle:

As someone has been involved with many different organizations and activities over the years:

It is a testament to both Colin Chock, the instructor as well as the club the types of people it attracts, with different backgrounds and nationalities. People come, relative to Hawaii wise, sometimes long distances and fight occasional bad traffic to fence.

Although I’m far from competition ready, after 7 months being with the club my confidence in my fencing, and some say my skill, has risen. This is due largely to the instructor, who is effective in his lesson plans and many times without, but also members of the club itself. The regulars there besides being athletic and intelligent, are also patient, welcoming, and instructive.

If you’re a couch potato or jock, or somewhere in between, as long as you’re interested in fencing, Salle is worth checking out.

If you find you like fencing, you’ll definitely find the community worth keeping. Fencing is fun and so are they!
