Gilles Duceppe and the Bloc Quebecois are experienced at dueling. Duceppe — who has a reputation for persistence — could take his mind off of things by picking up fencing, a sport that has limited physical limitations to start, but gets more difficult as you train harder. Russian born Igor Tikhomivrov, who runs the fencing club Sword Players in Toronto, competed in the 2008 Olympics and loves they way he feels when he’s got his sword in hand. “If you have any anger or negative emotions, they are released,” he says of the sport. Fencing requires great concentration and dedication, both of which can take a man’s mind off his rapidly changing party. But, as far as Tikhomnivrov is concerned, there aren’t too many similarities between sports and politics. “Sports are much more honest, and much more appealing.”
