2008 PARALYMPIC GAMES: Wheelchair Fencing Wrap-Up September 18, 2008

To highlight competition leading up to the final day of competition, Scott Rodgers (San Diego, Calif.) advanced to the quarterfinals in both days of his competition of the men’s foil and epee category B. A three-time Paralympian ranked fifth in the world, Rodgers won bronze in the epee category B event at the 2004 Paralympics and placed sixth at the 2007 World Cup in Paris. After coming away from a competitive morning preliminary pool with two wins and three losses in foil, Rodgers defeated Athens double medalist Piotr Czop from Poland 15-11 in the Round of 16. Then in the quarterfinals, the U.S. fencer had a four-touch lead, but couldn’t maintain the upper body strength to close the door against China’s Daoliang Hu.
