Local Orthodox teen has a real shot at Olympic Fencing Team

Most orthodox Jewish girls are not concerned with how they look holding a sabre. But Rami Diamond isn’t your average girl.

The eighteen-year-old fencing champion is gearing up for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, set to be held this month in Portland, OR. And although a shot at making it to Beijing is hugely exciting for the San Diego native, she is no stranger to success. Diamond was crowned the Pacific Coast Champion in Women’s Sabre in 2003, the made the Finals (Top eight) in the Under 14 division at the North American Cup Championship the same year, made the finals (Top 6) at the age of 15 in the under 20 division at the U.S. Winter Nationals in 2005, and recently took first place at the Arnold Fencing Classic in Open Women’s Sabre.
