Spear on point as fencing’s best

Jeff Spear, an NCAA fencing champion, enjoys playing tactical board games in his spare time.

With the pieces lying on the floor of his Wynantskill home, Spear can take hours or even days to finish “Republic of Rome,” which takes place in the ancient Roman senate, or “Totaler Krieg,” set during World War II.
