Wheelchair Fencing June 23, 2008

In wheelchair fencing, the opponents are placed on the strip in fixed positions, their wheelchair wheels locked into place, the chairs turned to angle the torso as in a normal en garde. The exact distance is determined by the fencers by sitting normally and extending their sword arms in turn, far enough apart from each other that the tip of the blade is just barely able to touch the elbow of their opponent’s sword arm.
