Rebecca Ward didn’t have many anxious moments while breezing to the U.S. women’s saber championship Monday at the Oregon Convention Center, but she had one.

The Beaverton teenager from the Oregon Fencing Alliance had been in control of the championship bout against Caroline Vloka of the Manhattan Fencing Center when Vloka suddenly took the offense and scored with a flurry of touches.
